The Hexagon Swirls Series is inspired by the Op Art movement of the 60's and 70's. I wanted to create an endless pattern of interlocking swirls, and through trial and error in my sketches, finally hit upon the hexagon format. The challenge of this pattern was to find a black and white configuration that worked with the even number of stripes in each pinwheel as well as the odd number of 3 pinwheels that form the basic interlocking structure of the pattern. I kept trying different configurations of black and white patterning forever until realizing that the only way to make it work was for each stripe to be both black and white at the same time with a gradient in the middle. The cropping options are as endless as the pattern.
These are some of my favorite crops. Click each image to view print options in a variety of media.
